Bare in mind that these techniques may not work on your particular system (as PCs are very fickle things and if you have a low-end system you may cause system instability – so use at your own risk).
Buying more RAM is probably the cheapest & most beneficial way to improve framerates though 32bit systems can only utilise 3gigs of memory, 64bit can handle anything from 4gigs upward.
Also what these did was to change a bog standard laptop running the game at 15-20fps even with all settings on low, to a machine that could run the game 35-45fps indoors (35-40fps) in Dalaran with maximum draw distance and maximum resolution. It was even able to do this with FRAPS running in the background which would previously have slowed my laptop’s FPS to single digits.
Those using Nvidia chipsets (Geforce etc) may want to download Rivatuner. Here you may tweak/overclock your GPUs though you should be careful when doing this.

-Disable UAC – or User Account Control (for Vista) there are various websites that will guide on how to do this, though its under Control Panel/ User Accounts/User Account Control. This will enable you to tweak aspects of your PC to make games run faster and smoother.
-I would advise also that before you go ahead and create the batch file, you firstly try it out using the Task Manager control method as it’s not permanent and thus you will be able to see firsthand if it makes any improvement to your particular machine.
-In order to set priority for wow via the .BAT file type in the following text on Notepad:
@echo off
cd /d “C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft”
start /high WoW.exe
-You copy it into the World of Warcraft directory and create a shortcut to it on the desktop, though this is not essential.
-Be sure to change the name to whichever directory you chose to save your wow game. It could be saved under a different directory, under program files or users – if you’re familiar with add-ons you should know where your files are kept.
- You can use this method to improve any other game/software by changing the path in the above text to the application’s .exe file.
-It is also important not to have too many programs running in the background as this will only undermine the high priority set for your wow.exe.
Change the appearance of your computer so your computer runs faster:
Start/Control Panel/System & Maintenance/System/Advanced System Settings/Performance/Settings/Visual Effects.
Visit Mark Russinovichs’ blog on ideas on how to push Windows to its limit. The majority of us have no idea of how Windows actually works, but Mark was employed by Microsoft after demonstrating his abilities to reverse engineer the Windows OS to such an extent that he knew more about its architecture than Microsoft did themselves. He has even been referred to as the Isaac Newton of the modern computer age.
