             Home beer making is something I initially got into at the same time I was still at school.

Homebrew beer was all the fad at the time with dozens of diverse homemade beer kits for sale in the majority of the stores and chemist shops.

Myself and 2 or 3 drinking friends would get all together and go and buy 1 or sometimes more than one home beer making kits, typically a few weeks in advance of the launch of the school holidays so it would be ready for the start of the summer time holidays, when we would group in our home gardens, get drunk on manky homebrew beer and vomit in each others shoes or boots.

So how did we get into home beer making?

Well a vast array of reasons.

First we were less than the lawful beer drinking age bracket but we were A bit of a wild bunch and liked to get smashed so home beer brewing was a very simple way for us to have pretty much bottomless access to highly potent homemade beer.

Secondly even though normal, typical beer from the off licence was low-priced, it was still too expensive for us schoolkids to be able to buy a sufficient amount of for a few of us to be able to go out and buy an adequate amount for a special event.

Thirdly it became a fun (and profitable) hobby.

To begin with our beer making efforts resulted in some pretty dreadful brews, nasty tasting, cloudy (like a dirty river in full flood), full of sediment and almost sure to make even the most steel stomached of us vomit after just a few bottles.

Progressively though, after sampling out pretty much every home beer brewing Kit on the market and trying different things with different brewing techniques we started to learn that home beer making could actually produce better beer than that you can buy over the counter.

We came to realize how to brew commercial quality beer, Of course for most of us anything that we can do well will often turn into something that we enjoy and as I have developed into a good beer drinker these two hobbies (brewing and drinking) go with each other perfectly. It's just a pity it took me so long to get to the stage my beer was at least as good as the mass produced beer.
