While most 3D TVs will have 120hz or higher refresh rates, the simple fact that a TV has 120hz does not make it “3D ready.” A 3D ready TV will also need to have a place to connect the outboard infrared emitters for the glasses, and an HDMI 1.4 connection.

There’s a new 3D TV FAQ list on Crutchfield. When you go to Crutchfield, click on “Learn”, then scroll down and click on Televisions, the 3D TVs. Can’t miss it.

    Hope that helps,

    120+hz is also “3D …
120+hz is also “3D ready” since to reproduce 3D, you’d need two separate 60hz+ streams (one for the left eye and another for the right) for use with special glasses .. it’s the next craze after the “HD ready” that’s just around the corner.. following 3D movies, and even 3D sports broadcasts as a trail run in selected UK pubs.

We’ve discussed this quite a bit in older comments on this video, scroll them to see more detailed explanations from Crutchfield. Lot’s of people question the effectiveness of the increased refresh rates, and we’ve tried hard to answer all the questions.

You can also find more detailed explanations at the “Learn” tab at Crutchfield.

    Hope that helps,

    I still don’t …
I still don’t understand how increasing the refresh rate can improve motion blur when the source itself is only either less then 30hz or 60hz. I get that it draws it faster, but it also draws everything at least twice because of the source. Human eyes cant pickup changes faster then 60hz so I don’t really get this.

    Usually this is not …
Usually this is not true 600Hz, it’s 600Hz sub-field drive. Meaning it’s actually 60Hz, but they use sub-fields to flash the image 9 or 10 times more, making the image appear crisper. That’s just how plasmas work. Even now it’s hard to find TVs with true 240Hz, and they are hella expensive. At least that’s what I’ve heard anyways…

    Hi eljuarenze,

    Hi eljuarenze,

Great question. Vizio TVs are all the rage right now. They sell a lot of TVs, they are inexpensive, and readily available.

At Crutchfield we have always only carried products we believe in, and can stand behind. We strive to maintain mutually rewarding relationships with vendors who demonstrate high professional standards.

Based on our criteria, Vizio is not a brand we have chosen to carry at this time.

    I hope that helps,
