Posted on July 22nd, 2010 by admin

This clip is taken from Gingrich’s March 27th response to Barack Obama entitled “What is the Right Change to Help All Americans Pursue Happiness and Create Prosperity?” To view the entire speech, visit the Media Center at Newt.org

Why …
@92b16vx
Why would you cut spending in a recession? That’s exactly the wrong time to do it. Have you ever actually studied any economics?

@AtlasShruggery
You’re not too bright huh? It takes more than just cutting taxes, you HAVE to cut spending too. No politician can cut spending, it seems to be against their genetic make up. Crying about Bush this, Obama that, left this, right that is a sick joke that keeps you preoccupied with the lowest common denominator, and destined to failure.

Uh, Newtie? We tried it your way. We cut taxes over and over again under Junior Bush. We ended up with the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression. It’s the natural result of Trickle Down Reaganomics.

Is he suggesting …
Is he suggesting that Ireland was forced to expatriate its citizens because it had a high corporate tax rate? The Irish fled Ireland because the English laissez-faire system exported Irish beef to English markets where they had higher returns.

You’re a typical …
You’re a typical Republican, jonboede. Ignorant of history. The federal budget has included Social Security receipts since the days of LBJ. And it was Democratic Congress which fixed Social Security in 1983. Of course Clinton presented balanced budgets to Congress. He said he would and he did. Not like Ronald Reagan who pontificated about it for 50 years & then ran up the biggest deficits in US history. 80 percent of our national debt was run up under just 3 presidents: Reagan & the Bush Boys.
July 22nd, 2010 at 5:38 pm
Clinton did NOT …
Clinton did NOT present balanced budgets to anybody. He presented a budget that included the surplus income that was SUPPOSED to keep the Social Security Trust solvent following the GOP congress “fixing” it… WITHOUT carrying any of the future liabilities that were being incurred by Social Security on the other side of the ledger. Clinton’s deficits were higher, as a percentage of GDP, than Reagan’s or either Bush’s.

Newt Gingrich, was …
Newt Gingrich, was speaker for the house from 1995 to 1999 during the Clinton administration. He is well-known as the architect of the Contract with America that led the Republican Party to victory in 1994 by capturing the majority in the U.S. House for the first time in forty years.

Its interesting how …
Its interesting how Gingrich does not examing the history of the United States in his examples. Heres a clue. Start with the Gilded Age, work your way through the New Deal, and you see where the answer to prosperity lies: in Keynesian economics. Did Ghana fail because of its effective government? No, but Korea flourished because of it.

Not soon enough, hoodoo.

Uh, no. Newt was …
Uh, no. Newt was the driving force behind impeaching Clinton over a blowjob. While Newt was cheating on his wife with a staffer, of course. Clinton presented balanced budgets to Congress unlike Ronald Reagan whom Newtie is constantly claiming to be the rightful heir to. Gingrich’s soak the poor and subsidize the rich policies are pure trickle down Reaganomics.

C’mon. You …
C’mon. You Republicans were in control of the presidency, Congress, the Federal Reserve, OFHEO and the SEC from 2001 to 2007 when this mess was made. Barney Frank and the Dems had no legislative or regulatory power. You Republicans were asleep at the regulatory switch again. Just like you were asleep at the switch before 9-11 despite all the warnings and again after Hurricane Katrina despite all the warnings.
July 22nd, 2010 at 5:38 pm
No, no, no, no.
…
No, no, no, no.
What caused this current mess was the Democratic encouragement of high risk loans via Freddie and Fannie in the 90s. People like Barney Frank, who said Freddie and Fannie were operating fine and that there wouldn’t be a collapse of the credit market are to blame.
July 22nd, 2010 at 5:38 pm
We tried things …
We tried things Newt’s way for many years. It was called Reaganomics. It means taxing working folks through payroll taxes and giving the money to oil companies and trust fund babies. It’s idiotic and it’s what caused the current mess.

I only wish that we could be blessed with a president who actually cares enough about the people to create success and compete to insure that USA is again a winner instead of the current situation in which we are spiraling into an absys of lost tech edge in all categories.
